Pretty Papered Dining Rooms

Imagine these designer dining rooms with painted walls.

Yes, still beautiful.  However, the addition of wallpaper in these rooms adds a whole different dimension, detail and warmth.

As lovely as they are in the daylight, they must be dreamy by candlelight.

Totally dreamy........

AGA Ranges

After yesterday's post about the kitchen designed around an aubergine stove that the homeowner found at a clearance sale, I wondered if I would spend that amount of money on an appliance that I really wanted, but wasn't sure of the color (even at a discount, these stoves are still very pricey).  Of course, it helps to have a friend/interior designer standing by to steer you in the right direction in co-ordinating the rest of the kitchen design, but could I live with a color that was not my first choice.  I really am not sure I could.  Could you?

I've added some colors below to show you what's available in AGAs.......

They are certainly beautiful and I like the idea of so many ovens, no knobs and heating the kitchen.
The following information is from an article in the Wall Street Journal:
"AGA
The cast-iron, British-made AGA is different from most ranges in that it isn't just for cooking, but for keeping the kitchen warm. The original AGA, which dates back to 1922, was designed to stay on all the time. Nowadays, an AGA user can program the stove to turn on at certain times. In the U.K., a smartphone app allows users to set their AGAs remotely and text them commands, such as "roasting oven on," says company spokesperson Laura James. The Five-Oven AGA Total Control has separate ovens for roasting, baking, simmering, slow-cooking and warming. It comes in 12 colors, such as "duck egg blue," "heather" and "aubergine" (shown here).
Price: $20,299 (Five-Oven AGA Total Control)" = $29,000 CAD

Pantone's Colors of the Year 2016

Taking a little break from Christmas ideas this morning to comment on today's announcement of Pantone's Colors of the Year 2016 - not one color, but two for the first time ever.  And they are two of my favorite colors - pink (Rose Quartz) and blue (Serenity).

I know we'll be seeing a lot more of these combined colors soon, in fashion and interiors.

As the Executive Director of Pantone's Color Institute  explains, “In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design,” Leatrice Eiseman said. “This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged, and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.”

I've been pinning 'pinks and blues' for some time, so it was easy for me to come up with these images on short notice.  I didn't have time to look for these colors in fashion today, but we're sure to be seeing more of them very soon.

As you can see, these colors have been used together for a long time, but from now on when we see them together, they will have new meaning perhaps......"gender equality and fluidity".

Have a great weekend and hope you enjoy the pretty images below.

Lillian August's Beautiful Retreat

OK......enough of nurseries for now.  Let's get back to some adult interiors.

I came upon this house in Traditional Home recently and I thought it was one of the prettiest and most comfortable houses I have seen in a long time.  I have followed Lillian August's work for a long time and have loved it, but I particularly love this fresh, light look she has incorporated into her newfound retreat in Carolina.

There are so many adjectives to describe rooms, but my favorite is 'pretty' and while there are lots of beautiful rooms out there in many different styles - modern, contemporary, traditional, shabby, country, mid century, vintage, etc........sometimes it's hard to find 'pretty', inviting, comfortable, charming and low maintenance all in the same home.

This house covers it all!  Pure charm!

To see more of this home and Lillian's story, go here www.traditionalhome.com.

What a lovely room - sisal rug, painted distressed furniture for low maintenance - no window treatments   - just lovely!

A closer view of the living room makes me want to paint, sand and pound all my dark furniture!  That's inspiration!

Love all the symmetry and colors.

Love the colors here, as well - can I say it again - so pretty!

Love it!

Wicker, sisal, birdcage, pink!  This is my cup of tea!

Love all of this and especially the stove!

A cosy corner!

How perfect is this?

And what house is complete without a furry little friend sitting on a bed of peonies?
Adorable!
